Ang Dakilang Teatro Ng Daigdig is a seamless Filipino and Spanish fusion of the 1967 one-act play Hoy, Boyet by the multi-awarded Filipino playwright, lyricist, psychic journalist, portraitist, game designer, and artist Tony Perez and the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awardee George de Jesus III’s Filipino translation of the 1634 masterpiece El Gran Teatro del Mundo (The Great Theater of the World) by the reputable dramatist, poet, and writer of the Spanish Golden Age Pedro Calderon de la Barca.
Under the direction of Philstage Gawad Buhay Awardee Nonon Padilla, Ang Dakilang Teatro Ng Daigdig combines the obra masetra of creative geniuses into one new creation and promises to be a refreshing showcase starred by distinguished thespians and industry veterans Frank Rivera and Manny Castañeda.
Joining them are the budding student-artists from the Theater Arts, Music Production and Information System Programs of the School of Design of Arts (SDA) of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB).
Ang Dakilang Teatro Ng Daigdig is an allegorical depiction of one’s place in the world following the Catholic Church doctrine and spills the reality of the philosophical concept of impermanence. It is an awakening that life on Earth is a swift test while the true and perpetual being only begins in the afterlife. In this re-evaluation and reflection, the characters and the audience will understand the value of life and free will and accept that the so-called fate is shaped by actions and decisions.
Ang Dakilang Teatro Ng Daigdig will have shows at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. from Oct.17 to 19, and Oct. 23 to 26.
Theater enthusiasts can likewise watch the play’s special performance during the Gala Night on Oct. 26, 7:00 p.m..
Tickets are priced at P500 for the Gala Night, P350 for regular screenings and P250 for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
