The Navotas City Government, under the helm of Mayor Toby Tiangco, provided more than 7,000 Navoteños with jobs and various forms of livelihood assistance in his first 100 days in office.
From July to September 2019, 4,379 residents secured employment from the city government, Tiangco said in his first State of the City Address.
These included 3,000 beneficiaries of cash for work; 1,237 recipients of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), 40 government interns and 102 hired job fair applicants.
The city also conducted a number of seminars to equip Navoteños with know-how on starting a business.
Among these were five NegoSerye, four Hanapbuhay Caravan, three barangay skills trainings, four Department of Trade and Industry-Negosyo Center seminars, and the annual Youth Entrepreneurship Summit. A total of 1,759 residents participated in the trainings.
Navotas also gained more skilled workers following the graduation of 305 students of the Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment (NAVOTAAS) Institute.
Navotas also provided various forms of livelihood assistance. The city awarded 50 fiberglass boats with 18 hp engine and complete set of gill nets and fishing accessories to 100 beneficiaries of NavoBangka-buhayan program. In addition, 414 registered fisherfolks received various kinds of fishing nets.
The city also released a total of P595,000 for 18 new and 44 renewal applicants of its Tulong Puhunan program, among them tricycle drivers and sari-sari store owners.
Furthermore, with other government agencies, Navotas also gave livelihood aid to qualified beneficiaries.
Sixty received P10,000 worth of groceries for sari-sari store from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration through the OWWA Balik-Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay Program. Twelve also got start-up capital for their sari-sari store from the Department of Labor and Employment.
Another three were given livelihood assistance worth P5,000 through the funding of the Department of Social Welfare and Development–National Capital Region.
“The city government strives to provide decent jobs and livelihood opportunities to Navoteños. We intend to pursue more programs and services that would help our constituents gain meaningful employment and secure a sustainable source of income,” Tiangco said.
