The Department of Justice on Friday directed Bureau of Corrections Director General Gerald Bantag to conduct an investigation into the explosion that took place inside the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra stressed that the probe will be done along with the Philippine National Police assigned at the national penitentiary.
“The DOJ oversight team has directed the BuCor chief to submit a written report and to commence investigation in coordination with the PNP contingent stationed at the NBP,” Guevarra said, in a text message to reporters.
According to the DOJ chief, the incident at the national penitentiary only shows how bad the security inside the NBP. Rey E. Requejo
“It’s an indication of how serious the security problem is inside the NBP,” he said.
