P&A Grant Thornton asked Filipino companies to start their sustainability journey.
“The sustainability roadmap is a global framework that will inform companies at what particular level they are and from there they can progress to the next level,” Michael Gallego, P&A Grant head of knowledge management, said during the sustainability forum with Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines in Makati City.
Data showed that of the 999,000 companies registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, less than 400 had clearly undertaken steps towards having a sustainability report. Most of them are companies registered at the Philippine Stocks Exchange and banks.
“Listed companies are required by regulator to have their distinct sustainability reports. In encouraging more of other Philippine companies to have theirs, we still have a long way to go,” Gallego said.
Sustainability should start from strategy to governance to operations, according to Gallego.
