The torch run of the 30th Southeast Asian Games is about to begin.
And it will begin in key cities around the Philippines starting on Oct. 3, with Davao City as the starting point.
Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee Director of Support and Operations Joseph Alcazar said this following a signing ceremony with MasterCard and Mediapro Asia as among the official sponsors of the biennial meet and 10th ASEAN Para Games.
“The flames will be brought here from Kuala Lumpur and there will be a torch run that will start in Davao City,” said Alcazar.
The ceremonial long relay of runners carrying torches to convey the flame to the site of the games will start when PHISGOC Chairman and House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Philippine Sports Commission Chief William Ramirez go to Kuala Lumpur to fetch the ceremonial flame.
Organizers said the the torch is a representative of the Philippines’ goal of lighting the way towards a higher level of organizing the biennial games which is on its 30th year.
Alcazar was at the signing ceremony with officials of Mastercard and Mediapro Asia.
Both organizations will support the official mobile app of the regional meet.
The platform will serve as a one-stop source of information for spectators, athletes, and officials during the Games.
It will include details on game schedules, score tallies and medal tables, and news related to the event.
As a technology network powering smart and secure payments, Mastercard will also enable convenient and secure online and offline purchases like event tickets and food at the venues through a payment card stored in the mobile app.
Mediapro is a lead group that will help broadcast the Games globally.
Rowell del Fierro, country manager of Mastercard Philippines, and Mediapro executive Lars Heidenreich, signed the agreement with Alcazar.
“As the appointed sponsorship agent for the SEA Games, we are excited to announce Mastercard as an exclusive category sponsor, joining other partners who are also leaders in their respective categories to support this Philippines milestone Games and most important sporting event across South East Asia in 2019,” said Heidenreich.
“While Mastercard lends its technical expertise to the Games with the goal of paving the way for the Philippines to be a cash-lite society, it also wants to provide an opportunity for Filipinos to come together to support the nation and its athletes and to Start Something Priceless,” said Del Fierro.
