Eusebio electoral protest dismissed

The Commission on Elections Second Division has dismissed the election protest filed by former Pasig Mayor Robert Eusebio against incumbent Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto because it is “insufficient in form and substance.”

In a statement, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said the Second Division voted unanimously in favor of Sotto. The decision was promulgated last Aug. 30, he added.

Eusebio filed in June the election protest against Sotto, the son of TV comedian Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes, over alleged “cheating” during the midterm polls.

Sotto defeated Eusebio, whose family made the city their political stronghold for 27 years, with an overwhelming lead of more than 80,000 votes.

“The protest failed to reflect a detailed specification of the acts or omissions complained of showing the electoral frauds, anomalies, or irregularities in the protested precincts,” Jimenez said, quoting the decision.

Prior to being elected as mayor last May, Vico served as a Pasig City councilor from 2016 to 2019.
