Mayor Toby Tiangco encouraged Navoteño youth to have their say on city governance.
During the recently concluded 2019 Navotas Youth Congress, Tiangco said their inputs would help make government services more responsive to their needs.
“You know first-hand the realities of the Navoteño youth. Letting us hear your voice and giving us your opinion, especially on projects and programs we implement, or you want us to implement, would greatly help in our efforts to serve your sector,” he said.
“Through your active involvement and participation in governance, we can improve the status and uplift the lives of our young citizens,” he added.
The city government, through the Navotas City Council for Youth Development and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, held the Youth Congress as part of the Youth Month celebration.
Around 450 high school and college students flocked to the Navotas Sports Complex to participate in the congress.
The event featured breakout sessions anchored on the nine centers for youth participation that were outlined in the 2017-2022 Philippine Youth Development Plan.
Topics discussed included Youth Mental Health; Financial Literacy; Youth in Governance; Youth for Environment Action; Design Thinking; and Self, Community, Country.
Also included were workshops on Filipino Sign Language and Baybayin writing and mentoring on how to apply for student exchanges and scholarships abroad.
To facilitate the congress, the city government partnered with Hirayang Kabataan, Kids Who Save (KHUSA), Baybayin Buhayin, Inc., Youth Strike for Climate PH, Youth for Mental Health Coalition, Center for Youth Advocacy and Networking (CYAN) Pilipinas, Hand and Heart, Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), Habi Design Lab and Xavier School.
