Alert members of the Makati City police station foiled an attempt of five men led by a Chinese national who tried to kidnap a fellow Chinese in Barangay Poblacion early Wednesday morning.
The authorities arrested the suspects led by Zhaochun Chen, known as Zhan Hao, the alleged leader of the group, who also tried to bribe the apprehending lawmen with P100,000 cash.
Also arrested were Mark Anthony Pareno, 39, of Rizal Avenue; John Muega, 24, of Washington Street; Reyan Villanueva, 35, of Purok Santol, New Cabalon, and Joe Marie Lavilla, 31, of Geronimo Street, all of Olongapo City.
Southern Police District spokesperson Jenny Tecson identified the victim as 36-year-old Ma Zhi Rui.
She said the incident happened at the corner of Kalayaan Avenue and Burgos Street in Barangay Poblacion at around 2 a.m.
Tecson said members of the Makati City police—P/Cpl. Rene Boy Gonzales, P/Cpl. Kay Razvi Quijano, P/Cpl. Caren Medina and P/Cpl. Israel Ngeteg—were conducting their routine patrol operation when they chanced upon a commotion involving the six individuals.
The policemen noticed the victim was being forcibly dragged by five men inside a white Toyota Super Grandia VX-1750, prompting them to intervene and made the arrest against the suspects.
The Chinese suspect also tried to resist arrest and even offered P100,000 in bribe to the arresting police officers.
The policemen brought the five men to the police station and seized the vehicle and the bribe money which they will use as evidence against the suspects.
