Power pop group This Band is still on a hot streak. With its hit single “Kahit Ayaw Mo Na” still a staple on radio stations around the country and a certified chart-topper on Spotify with 61 million streams, Apple Music Philippines Top 100, and YouTube now peaking at 211 million views, This Band is stoking the fire with the release of a new single “Nang Iwan.”
The Las Pinas-based group, a six-piece pop band that includes singer Andrea Manzano, guitarists, and chief songwriter Euwie Loria and Raymat Gubat, bassist Michael Galvan, drummerJohn Macaraas, and keyboardist Melvin Carson, has already notched a couple of hit singles on its members’ collective belt. Among the band’s most recent single, “’Di Na Babalik” which did well posting an impressive 16 million streams on Spotify alone. Likewise, its songs “Hindi Na Nga,” “Bitaw Na,” and “Tampisaw” are also in their millions.
When it comes to a particular type of “hugot” song, sophomore group This Band has got its brand of sound down pat. This much is true with its latest song “Nang Iwan.”
And as the title suggests, the song is a forlorn treatise about how heartbreak wreaks havoc on a person. It’s also about the fear of missing out that results in melancholy as depicted in the morose tones of singer Andrea Manzano and words of Euwie Von Loria.
But though the song is about heartbreak, in particular, we can’t help but admire the sound that This Band has found; a pop-cum-power-ballad sound with a bit of an edge that’s distinctly Pinoy. But don’t take our word for it, you can listen to This Band admire it yourself.
This Band recently won the MOR 101.9 Awards for best digital artist. This Band has also reaped a handful of nomination in the upcoming 32nd Awit Awards for Best Performance by a Group Recording Artist, Best Performance by a New Group, and Best Cover Art. It also aced two major nominations with Song of the Year for Von Loria and Record of the Year for “Kahit Ayaw Mo Na.”
This Band’s latest single “Nang Iwan” was released on July 26 and is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other digital music stores.
