Two-time Paralympic athlete Josephine Medina took home a gold medal in the 2019 International Table Tennis Federation Para Open at the Hua Mark Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Medina, who said she coached herself during her campaign, ruled the women’s singles’ 7-8 category after beating Christine Wolf, 3-0, in the finals.
On her way to the finals, Medina swept past Wong Yue Ching of Hong Kong, 3-0, and Fadhik Sitti of Indonesia, 3-0, to reach the quarterfinals.
The 49-year-old Medina, a bronze medallist in the Rio Olympics, then upset Hamida (no second name) of Indonesia, 3-1, ro reach the semifinals.
She then stopped Suwarti after Medina pulled off a 3-0 win to reach the finals.
“Walang nag-coach sa akin dito. Ako nga ang nag-coach sa sarili,” said Medina in a statement released online.
