The whisky best served in Antarctica

In 1907, British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton made a daring attempt to become the first man to reach farthest south in the South Pole.

Facing bitter winds, days of total darkness, and the perils of unknown terrain midway into the expedition, Shackleton decided to abandon his quest to bring his crew to safety.

Racing against time, the group left behind all their supplies at their base camp in Cape Royds, including three crates of Mackinlay’s Rare Old Highland Malt Whisky.

A century later in 2007, 11 bottles of perfectly preserved whiskies were discovered frozen in ice and unearthed in Sir Ernest’s hut—a masterpiece that eventually gave birth to the modern taste of Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky.

Shackleton Blended Malt Whisky, based on the whisky Whyte and Mackay’s distillery produced 100 years ago, features a rich and robust taste, with notes of vanilla, honey, ginger, and liquorice, and a whisper of bonfire smoke.

Whyte & Mackay brings to the Philippines the blended malt whisky brand in a way that lets whisky lovers experience and the thrill of its discovery—the Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is now touring select spots in Metro Manila via a roving iceberg museum.

Inside the truck, temperatures can go as low as -15 degrees Celsius. There, visitors can also learn about the unique history of Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky through a lights and sound show.

“We are bringing the Antarctic experience closer to whisky aficionados with our Shackleton ice truck beginning here at Landers Arcovia in Pasig City. Through this, we will be giving an interactive tasting experience where the flavor notes of our blended malt will come to life,” says Pia Bonalos-Mercado, brand manager for Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky.
