Lambonao, Bravo seek PPS honors

Cedrick Bravo and young Corazon Lambonao gear up for a tough outing in quest of honors and ranking points in two divisions in the PPS-PEPP Baybay national age-group tennis tournament, which got underway yesterday (Saturday) at Baybay City Tennis Club in Leyte.

Bravo gains the top seeding in the boys’ 18-and-under play that also includes John Martin Alejandria, Joshua Torres and Darcy Orag, while Lambonao shoots for the premier title in the girls’ side of the Group 2 tournament against the likes of Mia Gemida, Joan Gonzaga and Mae Ramos.

Bravo, Orag and Alejandria also look to dispute the 16-U crown that features Nicolas Ocat, Cymer Casem, Daniel Apostol and Rick Laguna, while Lambonao and company are likewise tipped to slug it out for the 16-U plum in the four-day event presented by Dunlop.

Gerald Gemida and Ocat, along with Bert Manlimus and Justine Hermoso, are expected to mix it up for the boys’ 14-U diadem in the event serving as part of the biggest and longest national age-group circuit put up by Palawan Pawnshop headed by president/CEO Bobby Castro.

Meanwhile, action shifts to Samar next week for the Mayor Rolando Aquino Cup on Aug. 15-18 in Calbayog, Samar. Listup is ongoing. For details, call PPS-PEPP Sports Program Development director Bobby Mangunay at 0915-4046464.

Lambonao is actually shooting for a rare three-title feat as she is also entered in the 14-U category that also features Mae Ramos, May Impas Kate Dayanan and Kimi Brodeth while Christian Laguna and Kenzo Brodeth spearhead the chase for the boys’ 12-U plum in the event sanctioned by the Unified Tennis Philippines made up of PPS-PEPP, Cebuana Lhuillier, Wilson, Toby’s, Dunlop, Slazenger and B-Meg.

Laguna also heads the title chase in the 10-unisex division that also lured the likes of Anton Dedace, Chrystell Laguna, Xian Calagos, Isabela Gonzaga, Mikko Codog, Sharmaine Grajo, and Kenzo Brodeth.
