Cayetano: Taguig safe from heavy rains, flooding

Taguig Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano has assured that the city remains safe and secure despite the heavy rains caused by the low-pressure area and the southwest monsoon affecting the country.

To ensure the safety of residents living near creeks, rivers and other low-lying areas in the city, the city government set up emergency shelters for more than 50 families.

Evacuation centers have been set up at Hagonoy Gym, Pag-asa Covered Court, Eusebio Elementary School, and Ibayo Day Care Centers to house affected families.

The city government has also distributed relief goods and hot meals provided temporary shelter for security and administered health services to residents currently staying at the evacuation centers.

Cayetano, together with Councilors Darwin Icay, Ryanne Gutierrez and Yasser Pangandaman, personally visited the evacuees to check on their situation and needs.

The City Health Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, Barangay Affairs Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Command Center, and General Services Office also made sure that regular weather and flood updates are gathered and the needs of the residents staying in the evacuation areas are attended to.

“As the weather continues to bring rains, everyone is encouraged to stay at home and spend time with your families. Avoid going out and risking your safety in this unpredictable weather. Remember to stay safe,” said Cayetano.

On Monday, the mayor ordered the suspension of classes in all levels both in private and public schools as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of students.

Meanwhile, normal water levels were recorded in the three pumping stations in the city—Wawa, Hagonoy, and Ibayo.

Cayetano personally visited the Wawa Pumping Staton to check on the water level and assure Taguig residents of their safety even with the continuous heavy rains in Metro Manila.

He also went to the city’s Command Center to make sure that protocols and equipment were in place and the city is ready to respond to any emergencies and other incidents brought by the weather disturbance.
