Fernando Air Base kept its steady rise in the 2019 Champion WGAP Circuit ranking, posting a victory and a runner-up finish to close in on overall leader Sta. Elena after the fifth leg at Valley Golf Club South course in Antipolo recently.

Grace Montilla and Jill Raymundo turned in identical 41 Stableford points while Terry Fasol and Lina Galang backed them up with 37 and 33 points, respectively, as FAB assembled a 152 and beat Wack Wack (144) by eight points to dominate Class A.

The Lipa City, Batangas-based squad nearly pulled off a “twinkill,” yielding the Class C diadem to Alabang by just one point, 134-135, to emerge the best scoring team in the second half of the eight-stage circuit organized and conducted by the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines.

With that five-point haul, FAB tied Alabang at second with 13 points in the overall race with Sta. Elena, which sizzled with a tournament-best seven-point romp at Southwoods last month but went scoreless at Valley, barely clinging to the lead with 14 points.

After a shutout stint in the first leg at Villamor, the FAB ladies placed second in Class B in Canlubang and in Class A in Tagaytay then topped Class B and finished third in Class A at Southwoods to get into the mix.

Tagaytay, with Mathilda Sun firing 39 points, ruled Class B with a 137, five points ahead of Villamor (132), as the Highlanders moved to solo fourth overall with 11 points followed by Villamor (10), Wack Wack (8), Forest Hills (7) and Canlubang (6) heading to the sixth leg of the circuit sponsored by Champion at Alabang Country Club on Aug. 19.

Wack Wack’s Diana Araneta led the team’s runner-up effort in Class A with 38 points that also netted her the individual title with Maria Delia Angeles, also of Wack Wack, bagging the Class B plum with 40 points and Camp Aguinaldo’s Robie Ann Ramirez claiming the Class C trophy with 41 points.

Other scorers for Wack Wack’s Class A squad were recent US Kids champion Monique Arroyo (37), Mikaela Arroyo (36) and Alice Jay Crisologo (33).

Elena (125); Wack Wack finished behind Tagaytay and Villamor in Class B with a 130 followed by Camp Aguinaldo (129), Sta.
