Fresh from winning the 9th leg of the National Executive Chess Championship, also known as the GM Rosendo Balinas Jr. Cup in Lucban, Quezon a week ago, National Master Carlo Lorena will try to annex a second straight championship when the tournament shifts to Tiwi, Albay on August 3 and 4.
The tournament, which will be held at the 24/7 Balikbayan Resort in Bgy. Bariis in Tiwi, Albay, coincides with the town’s annual Coron Festival.
Also in the hunt for the title are lawyer Lawrence Earl Roy Gersalia of Bulan, Sorsogon, a former chess varsity player of Polytechnic University of the Philippines; NM Ronald LLavanes and his brothers Rommel and Roldan of Naga City; siblings NM Glennen Artuz and Atty. Rudy Artuz, also of Naga City; Naga City Chess Masters Association Inc. president June Haig, Rene del Castillo of Bulan, Sorsogon; Ricardo Martin of Guinobatan, Albay; Agrifino Camposano of Camarines Sur, Jan Asor of Virac, Catanduanes, Archimedes Ballatan of Tabaco City, Albay; Architect Marvid Zuniga ng Legaspi City, Albay; Woman National Master Carmelita Abanes of Daet, Camarines Norte and National Master Efren Bagamasbad of Talisay, Camarines Norte.
Registration fee for the NCFP-sanctioned event is P1,000, while on-site registration is P1,200. The annual membership fee is P1,000.
For elementary and high school players, registration fee is pegged at P50 each.
Registration for Tiwihon players, meanwhile, is free.
