Day care center workers may expect better benefits once a bill filed at the House of Representatives gets enacted.
House Bill 2173 or the proposed “Magna Carta of Day Care Workers,” authored by Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy of Bagong Henerasyon Party-list, proposes the creation of plantilla positions and security of tenure in day care centers.
Herrera-Dy said day care center workers cater to millions of children, tending to the needs of children while their parents are able to attend to other equally important chores.
“For underprivileged Filipino families, having the option of government day care centers which require little contribution, is a big help,” she said.
Herrera-Dy said that despite the immensity of their work, day care workers receive a measly amount of P500 per month which is insufficient for their daily needs.
