Quezon City Councilor Winston Castelo wants free Wi-Fi access with a broadband speed of 65 mbps in “high-profile” public places to play “a major role” for students and teachers, increase workers’ productivity, and allow better business and investment opportunities.
At a media gathering, Castelo said local network providers “could only offer a speed of 30 mbps. We deserve no less. (We will) Put this Wi-Fi connection as soon as possible.”
“We are embracing the necessity of information technology through a fast, efficient and reliable Wi-Fi access,” added the councilor, who has already filed a proposal to provide a free Internet access in the city by 2020.
“Hopefully, it would be approved with the support of our Mayor (Joy Belmonte),” Castelo, who had just served three terms in Congress, told reporters.
