July ushers in the return of one of the breakthrough stage productions of the year as Resorts World Manila (RWM) brings back Ang Huling El Bimbo for its final run at the award-winning Newport Performing Arts Theater.
More audiences can now take advantage of new promos for the musical, which is touted as a ‘must-see’ for all generations. Theatergoers in groups may purchase 10 tickets and get five more free for same section seats via the 10+5 ticket promo, while currently enrolled students can also enjoy special rates at only P1,000 per ticket for Silver seats upon presentation of their school IDs.
Ang Huling El Bimbo is the story of four friends who navigate life’s ups and downs from the nineties to the present. The musical’s nostalgic soundtrack, woven through the hit songs of the country’s most prominent rock band during the nineties, provides the anchor of the poignant yet redeeming tale of friendship and self-reflection.
With a creative team of rising young talents behind the production including Dexter Santos (director/choreographer), Myke Salomon (musical director/Emman), and Dingdong Novenario (playwright), among others, Ang Huling El Bimbo also boast a stellar cast of multi-generational thespians led by Gian Magdangal, David Ezra, Jon Santos, Rafa Siguion-Reyna, OJ Mariano, Myke Salomon, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo (also associate director), Carla Guevara- Laforteza, Reb Atadero, Bibo Reyes, Boo Gabunada, Tanya Manalang, Lance Reblando, Phi Palmos, Gab Pangilinan, Sheila Francisco, and Jaime Wilson.
“Ang Huling El Bimbo is not just a theatrical experience,” shared King of Talk Boy Abunda after catching a performance. “Ako’y nakikiusap ho sa management ng Resorts World na sana’y dugtungan pa nila… I’m really hoping that you can extend Ang Huling El Bimbo until end of the year,” he added.
Recently, the musical took home two awards for most outstanding musical direction by Salomon, and most outstanding choreography courtesy of Santos in the 11th Gawad Buhay Awards; and was also recognized by the 2019 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards in Singapore.
