Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi is keen on extending the feed-in tariff for run-of-river power projects to meet the entire 250-megawatt allotment.
Cusi said the current run-of-river FIT subscription was still very low. The FIT grants all eligible renewable energy plants an entitlement for a period of 20 years.
“I told you that Philippines is number one in environmental sustainability but we are very poor in equity and security. That’s what we are working on,” the energy chief said.
“The 250-MW subscription has not been met. It’s still low. And the rate is already a very reasonable rate. I think P5.60 per kWh. Subscription is less than a hundred or less than 50 megawatts… That’s why I’m going to extend it… until it is full,” Cusi said.
The Department of Energy earlier endorsed to the Energy Regulatory Commission its decision extending the FIT for biomass and run-of-river hydro for another two years until December 2019.”
