In terms of pure entertainment, few things come close to action movies. With larger than life characters, high stakes, guns, and explosions, this genre has them all. And FOX+’s lineup of movies this month promises to get your heart racing and your butt at the edge of your seat.
Hunter Killer (June 2)
What would happen if a rogue Russian minister gets his hands on his country’s weapons of mass destruction and kidnaps Russian President? It could be the beginning of World War III. It’s a good thing then that American submarine Captain Joe Glass and his crew happen to be on a hunt for another U.S. submarine in distress in the Arctic Ocean. Upon learning that a secret Russian coup is threatening to dismantle the world order, Glass and his elite group of Navy SEALs set out to sneak through hostile waters to rescue the kidnapped Russian President and stop World War III from happening.
Asher (June 11)
What happens when a contract killer lives long enough to get old and start to consider settling down? Asher is good at his job, but he’s getting old. So far, he’s lived a life of lonely existence, finding pleasure out of fine wine and food, and resenting his apprentice, who was starting to eclipse him. It seemed a pointless life for Asher until he meets Sophie, and that meeting turned his life upside down, with a desire to his bloody past behind him. If only he could get out of the business that easily.
Hotel Artemis (June 16)
In 2028, there is a members-only hospital for criminals operating on the penthouse of an abandoned building in Los Angeles. It is run by the Nurse, a grizzled, no-nonsense healer played by Jodi Foster, whose performance in the film was deemed “Oscar-worthy” by critics.
As riots rocked the city, a group of criminals sought shelter and medical treatment at Hotel Artemis. With a couple of bank robbers, a French assassin, an arms dealer, and an injured cop in the Nurse’s hands, the night only got more intense as the Wolf King came knocking with life-threatening injuries. The only thing holding the peace were the rules, which include “No killing of other guests.” But even with all their injuries, things could only get violent from here, and they did.
Bad Samaritan (June 25)
What happens when you try to steal from a bad man? Sean, a young valet, who’s in the habit of breaking into his customers’ homes while they have dinner, tries to rob a wealthy man’s home to find a woman chained and gagged in his office. It turns out Sean tried to rob a serial killer. He was forced to leave the terrified woman behind before he was found out and later reported what he saw to the police. And now Sean’s on the sadistic killer’s sights as he tries to save the woman he had left behind.
Adrift (June 30)
This movie is based on the true story of Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp — two experienced sailors were hired to bring a luxury yacht to San Diego from Tahiti but encountered one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history en route. In the aftermath of the hurricane, Tami found the boat in ruins and Richard overboard and badly injured. She managed to get Richard on the boat, but now they faced an open ocean with a broken radio and a damaged boat, no hope of rescue. “A needle in a blue haystack.” What followed was a journey of survival as Tami mustered up enough strength and determination to find a way to land or even just be found.
