Drive vs misleading vinegar brands up

The vinegar making-industry will soon weed out misleading brands after consumer group Laban Konsyumer Inc. requested the government to subject all in the ongoing content test.

“This is to confirm and reiterate our pleading for the public disclosure of the brands of vinegar which were tested to contain synthetic acid. In this letter, our pleading is expanded to include all brands tested and to indicate which brands are tested positive with synthetic acid and brands with natural ingredients,” said LKI president Victorio Dimagiba in his letter to the Food and Drug Administration.

He cited the Consumer Act of the Philippines, which required additional labelling requirements for food products to determine “whether the ingredients used are natural or synthetic.”

The same law considers a food as mislabeled if its advertising is false or misleading in any way and if it bears or contains an artificial flavoring, artificial coloring or chemical preservatives.
