San Jose De Buenavista, Antique—A new town councilor in Bugasong won through a drawing of lots held by the Municipal Board of Canvassers (MBOC) Monday.
Breccio Ostan Jr. said in an interview on Tuesday that he and third termer councilor Geraldine Pesayco garnered 7,264 votes and landed on the eight spot during the May 13 elections.
“The MBOC asked us to sign an agreement that we agree with the draw lots,” he said. He said Geraldine Pesayco was the first to pick for the draw lots around 2:15 p.m.
“I was able to draw the paper with number 8,” he said. He said that it was for the eighth seat at the Municipal Council that they were contesting for. “It was an exciting experience,” Ostan said.
He said that prior to the drawing of lots, he received many text messages and prayers from his supporters.
“It is going to be my first time to sit as a municipal councilor,” he said. Ostan is the incumbent Barangay Captain of Barangay Zaragoza. He ran and lost during the election of the Association of Barangay Captains last year.
“I will give priority to social services and health in my term as municipal councilor,” he said. He believes that giving priority to human development and the health needs of the people would bring development in their municipality.
Ostan belongs to the slate of Bugasong Mayor John Lloyd Pacete, who is now detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology here because of an election offense that is still under appeal.
Last February 27, the Regional Trial Court Branch 64 Presiding Judge Mario G. Andres, Jr. penned a decision for the conviction of Pacete after he was found to have in his possession and control a .45-caliber pistol during the election period on April 16, 2016.
Pacete, although detained because of a gun ban violation, still won his second term with 10,139 votes against Vice Mayor Bernard Pesayco, who garnered only 6,790 votes.
Ostan said that they are hopeful the appeal of Mayor Pacete could be granted so that he could dispatch his responsibilities as mayor-elect of Bugasong town.
