Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was in Cebu over the weekend to receive the P1.1-million donation from several Cebu-based businessmen for the earthquake victims in her district in Pampanga. She said she would use the money to rebuild the houses that were destroyed during the earthquake. She also commended the quick response of the local government unit and the National Resilience Council which hit the ground running within the first hour after the tremor hit parts of Pampanga, particularly her district. She stated that the quick response strategy is a model for the whole country to carry out during times of emergency.
