The 17th Congress is at its tail end. As the curtain closes for #TheWorkingHouse, this ushers in another batch of legislators, ready to serve the people in the upcoming 18th Congress.
Among those who will be taking a break from legislative duties in the lower house are the 74 congressmen and congresswomen who will be vacating their all-important posts as representatives of their respective districts as soon as the 17th Congress formally ends.
Leading the cast of third-termers is the first woman speaker of the House, Gloria Macagapal-Arroyo. She is on her ninth and final year as 2nd District of Pampanga representative.
She became a congresswoman back in 2010 after a landslide win following her presidency.
Despite only manning the helm for 10 months as Speaker, SGMA was able to fulfill the legislative agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte, while leading the pack of enthused legislators to pass bills at a rate that exceeds expectations.
Close to 400 measures were approved on third and final reading even before 2019 entered with SGMA leading the way. Some colleagues in the House even praised the number and quality of the bills under the leadership of the country’s first woman speaker.
With the upcoming 18th Congress just around the corner, we hope that this success and show of diligence and hard-work continues on from the 17th Congress to a more fruitful #WorkingHouse.
