The Ateneo Lady Eagles will definitely make it difficult for the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses to clinch the 81st University Athletic Association of the Philippines women’s volleyball crown.
That’s because they will be better prepared to deal with the Tigresses in Game 3 of their best-of-three finals series at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Mall Asia Arena.
“Compared to our first game, we really played our best. We really played as a team,” said spiker Maddie Madayag, after Julianne Samonte and Pauline Gaston provided the big plays in the third and fourth sets,
And their big games pushed the Ateneo Lady Eagles to a 26-24, 14-25, 25-21, 25-15, triumph over the Tigresses last Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Their heroics gave the Lady Eagles a fighting chance to clinch the crown after Game 2 of their best-of-three finals series.
This evened up the series at 1-all.
In Game 2, Bea de Leon added 13 points for the Lady Eagles, who took the first set after they got past a 24-all deadlock.
“Pumapasok sa isip namin na this might be our last game. But, we crossed it off our kinds. Of course, lalaban kami. We won’t go down without a fight. And this is what we told each other. Binigay na sa amin ni Lord ito. Why won’t we grab the opportunity? asked Madayag.
