BARMM office rewards Palaro Moro athletes

Cotabato City—The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has rewarded cash gifts to the region’s athletes who brought home a total of 19 medals from the recent Palarong Pambansa.

BARMM athletes of various sports brought home 19 medals as the 2019 Palarong Pambansa ended Saturday in Davao City, which hosted the event from April 27 to May 4.

BARMM MBHTE Minister Mohaguer Iqbal hailed the athletes as he led a welcome ceremony for the returning Moro athletes.

“You have fought a great fight; you have surpassed the expectations,” he told the athletes. “You brought honor to BARMM. Thank you very much.”

Iqbal said: “This region has been in the bottom rank in 2017 with nine medals in total. In 2018 we won just three medals, all bronze. This year you have brought home an amazing 19 medals.”

Director Taya Aplal of the region’s Bureau of Physical Education and Special Events said Iqbal and Deputy Executive Secretary Abdullah Cusain handed over P20,000 in cash gifts to each of the gold medalists, P15,000 each to recipients of silver medal, and P10,000 to each of the bronze medalists.

Lawyer Haron Meling, executive assistant to the Office of Minister Iqbal, said the region has garnered a total of three gold medals, ten silver medals, and six bronze medals. 

The Bangsamoro region ranks 16th place of the country’s 17 regions, which participated in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa. Nash B. Maulana with MBHTE Information Office
