Experience will be something that former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio be leaning on when he marks his return to the ONE Championship Circle.
Eustaquio is scheduled to lock horns against Kim Kyu Sung of South Korea in one of the undercards of ONE: ENTER THE DRAGON, which emanates from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on 17 May.
Competing professionally for the past eight years, “Gravity” believes that his experience of battling the best in The Home Of Martial Arts is something that he will have over the debuting Sung
“I've seen them all. I fought the best and learned a lot from them,” Eustaquio said.
“Experience always plays a big role in competition.”
Eustaquio started out as a kickboxer at a very young age of 14, before transitioning to Wushu and becoming a national team member.
Back in February 2012, he started his career with the Home of Martial Arts and Eustaquio never stopped since.
Eustaquio owns win over Alex “Little Rock” Silva, Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov and Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes – the biggest names in the ONE Flyweight division, and also former World Champions themselves.
He’s also lost some in that stretch, and for Eustaquio – that’s to his advantage, more than anything.
“I know we’ve both been through a lot in our mixed martial arts careers, but I think my mindset to handle certain situations, will play a huge factor in our match,” said Eustaquio.
Nevertheless, Eustaquio knows this won’t be a walk in the park.
Standing at 6’0, the South Korean holds a six-inch height advantage over Eustaquio and it’s something that he plans to overcome through diligent preparation.
“He is very tall for our division. His distance is the biggest threat I guess,” Eustaquio shared.
“[But] my game has evolved and upgraded completely. For this match, I’ve worked a lot on making sure my striking is diverse and wrestling. Also Baguio Jiu jitsu..”
