Ateneo, FEU dispute last finals’ seat in UAAP volley

Far Eastern University and Ateneo dispute the remaining Finals berth in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The winner of the 3:30 p.m. match will face University of Santo Tomas in the best-of-three championship series starting Saturday.

The fourth-ranked team in the eliminations, the Lady Tamaraws erased the Lady Eagles’ twice-to-beat advantage with a 10-25, 25-23, 25-22, 12-25, 15-8 last Saturday to send their Final Four duel to a knockout game.

“Overwhelmed siyempre pero hindi pa tapos. Hindi pa time to celebrate, marami pa kaming mga bagay na ipi-fix for Game 2 kasi I’m sure sa Game 2 ibang team ang makikita namin both team. Ibang intense na laro,” said coach George Pascua, who is seeking to steer FEU to a second consecutive Finals stint.

The Lady Tamaraws looked motivated to book a return trip to the title round, especially for graduating players Jerrili Malabanan, Kyle Negrito and Heather Guino-o, as the momentum has shifted to the 29-time champions.
