The Philippines’ preparations for its participation in the 30th Summer Universiade to be held in Napoli, Italy from July 3 to 14, 2019 are in full blast.
The Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines is sending a delegation of competitive athletes to the Summer Universiade, featuring the most prominent university students from all around the world.
The country is taking part in the following events, athletics, archery, diving, swimming, table tennis, lawn tennis and taekwondo.
Alvin Tai Lian, FESSAP Chairman of the Board, is the Philippines’ Head of Delegation to the Napoli Universiade.
Newly elected as FESSAP President Angel Ngu is designated as the country’s Flag-Bearer during the opening ceremonies of the Napoli Universiade, a multi-sports biennial spectacle that is considered as the Olympics at the university level.
The first batch consists of archery athletes from the University of Baguio. They are Jayson Mendoza, Allen Raquipo, Loren Balaoing, Andrea Robles, and Shanaya Dangla. The team’s head coach is Alan Elegado.
The second batch is made up of lawn tennis athletes from Mapua University. Members of the team coached by Antonio A. Quiza are Al Sastrillas Quiza, Jomari Gammad, Erinn Lance Dela Cruz and Hannah Geline Dela Cruz, and Mapua University athletic director Melchor Divina as Team Official and David U. Ong, FESSAP Honorary President as Team Leader.
Othe batches will be announced soon by Professor Robert Milton Calo, Chair of the Universiade Preparation and Monitoring Committee, with partnership from Technological University of the Philippines, Bestank, San Miguel Corporation, University of Baguio, Globe Telecom, Megaworld Property and Mapua University.
