Women’s body lauds QC, dads for gender tack

The Philippine Commission on Women has recognized the Quezon City government for being the most gender-responsive local government unit over its comprehensive gender and development programs.

Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte received the award acknowledging Quezon City as a gender and development local learning hub in view of its GAD programs, including the city’s protection center for victim-survivors of gender-based violence and abuse and city social hygiene clinics.

The city council was recognized for its enactment of ordinances upholding human rights, gender equality, and women empowerment.

“In behalf of the Quezon City local government, I would like to thank the Philippine Commission on Women for recognizing our programs on gender development, and our efforts in providing a gender-responsive governance,” the vice mayor said.

“Quezon City has a comprehensive gender-fair ordinance and we are the only one to establish a Quezon City Pride Council for our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community,” she added.
