JC de Vera on fatherhood, marriage, and showbiz career

Actor JC de Vera is quite the doting dad, who has, time and again, talked about how fatherhood has brought a lot of change in him as a person and as a human being since his priorities have changed.

Actor JC De Vera is on a new high these days because of the positive feedback and high ratings of the new series,  ‘The General’s Daughter.’

In an interview with Manila Standard, he talked about how having a child made him a better person and how the father in him has become so protective.

“It’s different if you’re baby is a girl, you need to be more protective, unlike boys, you can just let them run around, literally and figuratively. The bottom line is, you just want to give your child the best life,” the 32-year-old actor shared.

“I have learned a lot of things about myself since Lana was born. I became more patient, and of course more inspired to work,” he added.

JC enjoys being a hands-on dad and will do anything to see his little girl, who is turning one year old next month, happy.

While he enjoys being a first-time parent, JC and his partner Rikka are not keen on adding another member to their beautiful family.

“We’re talking about our church wedding. Maybe it will happen in 2021. We really wanted to prepare for it that’s why having another baby is still out of the picture. But if I were to choose, I want to have a baby boy,” JC smiled.

They plan to get married in church once they are done with their current projects. Rikka helps in their family’s construction business while JC, while busy in showbiz, juggles his time being an entrepreneur as well—he’s into food business.

“I’m doing this for my family. If I’m already rich, I wouldn’t do showbiz anymore,” JC said in jest. “Kidding aside, showbiz is my passion so I will still be around as long as people still like me and I still receive offers.”

JC takes pride in his partner’s accomplishment and dedication. Apart from being a “great mom,” the actor considers Rikkah his great inspiration — the person who gave him direction, too.

“She’s the one who plans her future and knows what she wants to achieve. Before, happy go lucky lang ako in my past relationships. You just live for the moment. Siya, she really wants to have a family and also be successful in business. Siya, may direction talaga. So, nahawa ako,” he said.

Meanwhile, JC’s name was dragged in a recent situation that happened on the set of The General’s Daughter in Batangas. Reports came out that the series lead star Angel Locsin walked out while having a scene with the actor.

In the same interview with Manila Standard, JC made clear that he was sleeping on the set when the incident happened and he didn’t have any scene with Angel on that day.

“I was able to sleep because I didn’t have to shoot for that day. A few members of the cast and crew were sleeping, too. So when we woke up, Angel was no longer there and we heard that she left.”

Out of respect, JC did not inquire on what transpired during the shoot that forced the actress to leave.

“She sent a text message to everybody and apologized. The next day, she’s back, on time, like she always does, and everything was back to normal,” he shared.

The actor further said that this situation is normal in big TV productions like The General’s Daughter. They are confronted by internal and external demands, and shooting the series is not an easy task for the director, the crew, and the cast.

“There are times that we feel tired and exhausted because of the demand of our work. The General’s Daughter is an action drama. We don’t just act. We have to perform stunts that are physically draining and challenging. So if someone breaks down, either an actor or the director, it’s normal and understandable,” he concluded.
