Volkswagen Philippines is optimistic of selling 50 percent more units in 2019 after a flat growth in 2018.
Volkswagen president Felipe Estrella III said Thursday night the company’s five-vehicle line-up would be further spruced with the addition of two new large SUV models to be introduced within the year.
“If the market recovers, then we can (expect) our sales even higher. We continue to rely on the sales of our compact sedan, the Santana, as volume sales driver,” he said at the sidelines of a media appreciation event.
Among the five models—Santana and Santana GTS, Lavida, Tiguan and Lamando—the Santana led sales with 33 percent of the entire 2018 sales.
All five German car models are China-made, said Estrella.
Volkswagen sales were the same in 2017 and 2018 at 1,363 units each year, at the backdrop of 15-percent drop in the sales of the Philippine automotive sector.
