Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte on Thursday urged tricycle operators and drivers’ associations in areas to be affected by the closure of the Tandang Sora flyover for cooperation with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
“Let us cooperate with MMDA on the clearing operations. Let us have discipline [on the road], and don’t just park anywhere. The issue here is not the clearing operation or the apprehension for those obstructing. The issue is about discipline,” she said.
Last Tuesday, MMDA started conducting clearing operations along Luzon Avenue, Visayas Avenue, Congressional Avenue, and Tandang Sora Avenue as alternative routes once the Tandang Sora flyover and intersection are closed.
Belmonte said sidewalk vendors, illegally parked vehicles and any obstructions along the sidewalks would be removed, and that vendors with hawker’s permits may continue their undertakings provided they do not cause any obstruction in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, two years after the passage of City Resolution 7687 of 2017, the city government is set to purchase three brand-new vehicles for program monitoring at P1.2 million each.
The 37-member city council gave Mayor Herbert Bautista the green light to purchase three L-300 FB Exceed vehicles “to ensure better delivery of basic services and the provision of adequate facilities,” the resolution read.
