New Clark City in search of other SEAG venues

There are many events in the 30th Southeast Asian Games which may not be held at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.

That’s because the NCC may not have enough facilities to accommodate many of the sports disciplines which have been calendared for the biennial meet.

Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee Deputy Director General Arrey Perez said this with nine months left before the start of the Games.

“Maraming kaming pinag-aaralan kung saan puwede ilagay ang mga ibang events. We’re thinking of Clark Global City in Angeles, Pampanga,” said Perez.

The facilities which will be used for the games are expected to be finished by August, according to Perez, who added that organizers are making an effort to find other venus that are already available for the Games.

The Senate approved only P5 billion of the P7.5 billion proposed budget for the biennial meet.

So far, the PHISGOC is no longer considering the Araneta Coliseum as a venue for volleyball.

The Committee, which considered the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna as an alternative venue, will now have volleyball at the Philsports Arena.

There are proposals to have skateboarding in Tagaytay, but officials are still discussing its feasibility.

Officials are reportedly now seeking the help of private sponsors on many other venues to help bring down the cost of the staging of the biennial meet.

The Philippines is set to host the Games again after 14 years.

There will be a total of  56 sports and 523 events spread across 39 venues in Subic, New Clark City, Tagaytay and Metro Manila.

The PHISGOC has started signing an initial list of private sponsors, who will bring in added funds and services to the regional meet that will take place on Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
