The House of Representatives led by Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo condoled with the family of the late Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor and Chairman of the Monetary Board Nestor Espenilla Jr.
Espenilla passed away last Saturday.
Arroyo credited Espenilla for his exemplary performance in leading reforms at the BSP to strengthen the country’s economic foundation.
“We mourn the demise of Governor Nestor Espenilla, who steered the BSP with great dignity as he pursued his Continuity Plus Plus program in response to the formidable responsibility that President Rodrigo Duterte entrusted on him, of further strengthening the economic foundation of our country through economic policy,” Arroyo said.
The former president recalled that Espenilla helped her administration institute reforms in ensuring a sound economic policy.
“Even during my Presidency, Nesting Espenilla showed exemplary leadership as BSP deputy governor for the very sensitive Supervision and Examination Sector.’’
“I take pride in his accomplishments during my term, as I salute him for his work in the Duterte administration, and I extend my respectful condolences to his family,” said Arroyo.
