34 more cocaine bricks found in Surigao del Sur

More cocaine packages continue to wash ashore in Philippine waters, with the sixth package of 34 bricks recovered in Surigao del Sur early Sunday morning, police said.

This developed after the police offered a sack of rice for each brick of cocaine recovered by residents.

Chief Supt Gilberto Cruz, director of regional police office 13,  said the 34 bricks of cocaine were found floating off the shore of Purok Santan, Brgy Bungtod, Tandag City at 6:30 a.m.

Cruz said Surigao del Sur provincial police office head Sr. Supt Francisco Dungo led the recovery of the prohibited substance wrapped in plastic inside a box.

Cruz said fishermen Ronnie Navales and Rayan Apelo were at sea fishing when they spotted the mysterious package and immediately alerted the police.

The latest cocaine package was valued at P200 million bringing the total recovered bricks to over a billion pesos worth in just a week’s time, police said.

The lates 34 bricks of cocaine in Surigao del Sur brought to six incidents involving the discovery of illegal drugs in different parts of Philippine archipelago.

Cruz said the recovery was the result of the information drive initiated by authorities encouraging fisherfolk not to hesitate to report any suspicious bricks seen in waters in exchange for a sack of rice per brick of cocaine.
