The Bureau of Customs seized guns and ammunitions worth more than half a million pesos at the Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Alert customs personnel found four Glock 19 9-MM pistols, four Heckler & Koch P2000 V3 pistols, 20 magazines and 266 live rounds of ammunition concealed in secret compartments in tool boxes and solar panels.
The seized goods were found in two outbound packages from Taiwan which were declared as “Solar Panel” and “Tool Cart.”
The senders and recipients of the seized outbound shipments have been identified based on transaction documents and will be investigated.
Firearms and ammunition were discovered through the profiling skills of BOC NAIA and subsequent x-ray examination of the shipments.
Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said that NAIA examiners and operatives are trained on profiling illegal goods both inbound and outbound shipments.
He said exportation of firearms and ammunition through fraudulent misdeclaration and without necessary permits constitute violation of Section 119A, 1400, 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The Bureau of Customs will continue to protect the country against entry and exit of contrabands and will remain vigilant to protect all inbound and outbound cargoes.”‹
