After American Cris Copas of Kentucky and partner Claude Bautista of the CPB group of Mindanao (CPB and Cris entry) topped the 2019 World Slasher Cup 9-Cock Invitational Derby last Feb. 6, World Slasher Cup 2 is already in the works from May 27 to June 2, also at the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum.

CPB Group’s Bautista, who was represented by Cesar Tan and handler Alejandro Jochico, was feted in a grand awarding ceremony at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center on Wednesday. The champ was presented with a coveted silver-plated trophy that was shipped from Hong Kong.
The festivity was also graced by WSC Derby Office head Dong Lamoste, Uniprom Inc. COO Irene Jose, as well as the reigning queens Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2018 Jehza Huelar, Miss International 2018 First Runner-up Ahtisa Manalo, and the country’s first-ever Miss Intercontinental 2018 Karen Gallman.
Fielding Kelso, Roundhead and Sweaters in the grueling derby, team CPB and Cris took the solo championship at this year’s WSC first edition with a perfect 9-0 card.
The Birthday Gift 1 and 2 entries of Team Alcala, with 8 points, followed closely behind. Racking up 7.5 points in the last day were Belle Almojera of Florida, and Santi Sierra of Cebu; and 7 pointers were Nene Araneta, Biboy Enriquez, cockfight idol Patrick Antonio, Jomel Gatlabayan and RGBA Friends, Jimmy Junsay, Doc Marvin Rocafort, and Cris/Paolo Mercado.
World Slasher Cup 1 was a success thanks to the support of sponsors Thunderbird, Emperador, and Powertrac – the latter giving out 32” LED TVs each day of the derby to a lucky raffle winner. The derby was also supported by media partners The Journal Group, Pilipino Mirror, Saksi Ngayon and Diaryo Bomba; as well as Pitgames Media Inc., Bakbakan Na TV, Sabong Pilipinas, Tukaan, Sagupaan, and others.
