Do you believe in angels?
I do.
On January 28, an angel in human form named Barbara (Barbi) Francisco gave a puppy who lived in a wooden kart or "kariton" a better chance at survival. I call him the “kariton” pup while Barbi named him Epi.
Barbi adopted the cute brown puppy a few hours after reading my post for help in the group page of Save Animals of Love and Light (Save ALL), an animal welfare group of which I am a member.
I was so overwhelmed by gratitude that I hugged her when we met up later that night for the adoption of the puppy.
The puppy's mother is Whitey, an aspin tied to a wooden cart 24/7 along a busy street in Quezon City, at the back of Quirino Memorial Medical Center, popularly known as Labor Hospital.
Whitey's owner was a "mangangalakal" or scavenger who sells recyclable materials to junk shops. He would leave Whitey and Boomer, another dog, tied to his cart day in and day out. The owner's wife visited and fed Whitey and Boomer once in a while.
I would pass by these poor dogs on my way to work twice a week, feed them, and take them on walks on the days that I am in the area.
Whitey gave birth the day after Christmas to four puppies. Two pups were given away by the owner and one was unfortunately eaten by the big rats in the area. Only Epi was left with Whitey then.
The place is not safe for any exploring puppy, thus I called for help in the Save ALL group page.
God must have heard my pleas for help for Epi, the “kariton” puppy, Boomer and Momma Whitey.
On that same day, the owner's wife was there and I asked for permission to have the puppy adopted. I also asked her to allow Mommy Whitey to be adopted by the same person so she can still nurse the one-month-old pup. She gave her consent.
Everything worked out for this lucky pup as Barbi, who rescues dogs and cats as well, adopted both Epi and Mommy Whitey.
With the puppy and Mommy Whitey out of the “kariton world,” the owner’s wife said she could now bring Boomer, the black and white dog, to their new house come mid-February. She said that the house needs a dog.
Everything just fell into place.
Epi found a safe, warm and loving forever home with his furmom Barbi. He was reunited with his dog mommy, Whitey, a week later. Boomer will be brought to a safer place next week.
It was very heartwarming to see puppy Epi running towards his mama Whitey and immediately trying to suck milk from her when Barbi went back for Whitey. It was a happy moment for both dogs. They can now be assured of a safe and loving home where there is food and clean drinking water everyday.
Thank you furmom Barbi for opening up your loving home to them.Thank you Save ALL for providing a venue for such cases.
All in a day's work with God's providence.
