Kawano, Sato top 41st Yulo golf tourney

Takashi Kawano and Ryuzo Sato pooled a 163 and edged Rolando Ramilo and Alfredo dela Peña in the countback to nail the overall crown while Mari Hechanova and Junjun Plana took the low gross diadem in the 41st Jose Yulo Memorial Tournament at the North and South Courses of the Canlubang golf complex in Laguna recently.

Kawano and Sato combined for an 84 in the first day then put in a 79 to clinch the top honors in the annual 36-hole tournament held in honor of the former House Speaker. Ramilo and dela Peña shot an 84 in the first round and rallied with a 76 that proved short to snare the coveted title.

Jolly Gomez and Ike Madamba placed third with a 156 on a pair of 78s in the event backed by hole-in-one sponsors The Turf Company and Texas Eagle and Mitsubishi Motors Phil. Corp. with supporters GC&A Club Shares (890-Golf), Pacsports Phils., Inc. and Gardenia as gold sponsors and BSI Medicated Spray and Peter Paul (Virgin Coconut Oil) as silver backers.

Sharing the spotlight was Rudy Verano, who drove home a brand new Mitsubishi Xpander he won in the grand raffle while Hechanova and Plana assembled a 286 for the team low gross honors.

Other daily winners were Charo Buencamino-Aris Lara, who carded an 83 and nipped Charlie Carmona-Kath Gonzalez in the countback, and Ashlin Clint Co-Amuan Cedric, who shot an 85 and likewise foiled Shoichi Hoshi-Yasuma Koji in the countback at the South course.

Ikuko Kito-Akiko Harada and Nards Leviste-Jessie Yuzon reigned at the North layout with 82 and 79, respectively, while Carlo Quimson and Abe Rosal captured the individual low gross diadems with 150 and 151, respectively, while Jay Laurel and Jeffrey Ocampo shot 82 and 80, respectively, to share the low net crowns.
