Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Sunday disputed the report of IBON Foundation that the government only created 81,000 jobs from 2017 to 2018.
“Our employment data for 2018 is 810,000,” Bello said in an interview with dzBB.
“What IBON did was to compare the data from the past three years to our accomplishment in 2018. You cannot compare the two,” he said.
IBON Foundation cited data from the Philippine Statistics Authority which showed the number of employed Filipinos only increased by 162,000 from 41 million in 2016 to 41.2 million in 2018.
The research group said this brought the number of jobs created from 2017 to 2018 to only 81,000, which it said was the lowest level among post-Marcos administrations.
Bello, however, said employment rate increased by 2.9 percent since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed position in 2016.”‹
