Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista on Tuesday ordered the suspension of classes in all public and private schools at all levels tomorrow in view of the Black Nazarene procession in the neighboring City of Manila, which is expected to draw up to 14 million devotees from across the country.
"In view of the reported threats to the security and orderliness of the conduct of the activity, including its implications to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, Mayor Herbert M. Bautista issued instructions declaring a suspension of classes in Quezon city, at all levels on Wednesday, 09 January 2019," the memorandum read.
"Learning facilitators and the faculty are advised to provide students affected by this class suspension additional compensatory homework."
Bautista ordered a "widest dissemination" of his order.
Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar of the National Capital Region Police Office, however, said there is no "verified information" of any security threat against the Traslacion, the annual procession of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila.
