The Bureau of Customs seized four high-end luxury cars, including a sports car worth millions of pesos declared as car body at the Port of Cebu.
Cebu Port district collector Elvira Cruz said the discovered four units of luxury motor vehicles arrived from Japan and was contained in container vans.
The luxury cars were found after the BOC conducted 100 percent physical examination following information that the shipment was misdeclared.
The slightly-used vehicles was imported by Kylemelan General Merchandise with office address at Malabon City but arrived at the Port of Cebu last December and declared as a one-piece car body for decoration.
“After undergoing X-ray inspection, the scanning image of the shipment, however, exhibited that the same actually contained four completely-build up motor vehicles,” she said.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service requested for the issuance of alert order against the shipment for suspected act of misdeclaration under Section 1400 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
The smuggled cars include a Range Rover Evoque, a Porsche 911, a Mercedes-Benz, and one Alfa Romeo.
The BOC will file charges against the importers while the shipment will be confiscated.
