Through the joint efforts of its multi-sectoral partners and donors, GMAKF was able to rehabilitate two classrooms and build four classrooms and a total of 12 gender-sensitive restrooms at Pendolonan Elementary School. A concrete school square for student assemblies was also built along with a five faucet hand washing facility for the students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. A Kapuso ng Kalikasan tree planting activity was also conducted during the inauguration.

The turnover ceremony was led by GMAKF EVP and COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog together with the AFP’s1st Infantry Asst. Division Commander Brigadier Gen. Jacinto Ramos Bareng, Task Force Bangon Marawi Assistant Secretary Felix Castro, Lanao Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry Inc. Honorary President Henry Dy, Manila Water Foundation Executive President Reginald Andal, Department of Education (DepEd) ARMM Marawi Division Superintendent Pharida Sansarona, DPWH Region X Assistant Regional Director Jing Saldua, Marawi City Information Officer Johara Gandamra Tanggote, Provincial Social Welfare Development Officer Maharlanny Alonto , Lanao Del Sur Provincial Police representative and NHA Community Services Support Officer Aisah Marohom-Salic.

GMAKF is the first non-government organization to turn-over a newly constructed school in Marawi City last October, exactly a year after its liberation by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) from the Maute terrorist group.

The construction was made possible through GMAKF’s partners: Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Western Mindanao Command & 54th Engineering Brigade, Task Force Bangon Marawi, Joint Task Force Ranao, Department of Public Works and Highways National and Region X, the local government, Department of Education National, ARMM & Marawi Division supported by the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur & the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office.

GMAKF used construction materials resilient to fire, typhoon, and termites to ensure the sturdiness and durability of each classroom.
