In showbiz, we do have our seasoned veterans, however, what makes Philippine showbiz throb and sizzle are the newbies, up starters and young bloods who become sources of inspiration or subjects of infamy.
My dear followers and readers of Arias, let me introduce the 10 newbies who are sure to make a big splash and reign in 2019.
Shido Roxas—he was part of the most awarded MMFF 2018 film Rainbow’s Sunset, with 11 trophies that included Best Picture, and Best Director for Joel Lamangan. Shido plays the young Eddie Garcia in the much-loved motion picture. Brawny, brainy, with an arresting screen presence and is more than willing to be daring if his role calls for it. There is more to Shido than being a beefcake.
Ali Forbes—Sexy. Comely and brazen are just some of the adjectives associated with this lady. She will play lead in a costume and historical drama that will surely be controversial as it presents the life and many loves of a prostitute during the Spanish illustrado era.
Vance Larena—the eldest brother in the critically acclaimed and sleeper hit Bakwit Boys. Vance brought home the Best Actor in a Featured Role from the ALIW Awards. This young man has a solid theater background and reportedly has no qualms in giving life to edgy and out of the box characters.
Michelle Vito—to say that she is beautiful is an understatement. When you see Michelle in person, you know that apart from being an actress of note, beauty queen and supermodel are territories she can excel in. In Otlum, her director Joven Tan teased that she was just playing her “maarte” self. To this, Michelle’s reaction was a guffaw.
Enrico Cuenca—he is Oliver in Onanay and yes, every inch of him screams matinee idol. He has puppy dog eyes, a sensitivity that is potent, and portraying an affluent young man is second skin to him. You cannot take your eyes off him because he is not just only promising, but a superb sampling of a fine young gentleman.
Golden Cañedo—forget the uncanny resemblance to Pop Star Royalty Sarah Geronimo since this singing sweetheart has a melodious voice that pulls the heartstrings. She knows how to bring out the story of every and it does help that the young miss is a princess that charms.
Gab Lagman—he is a model, basketball player, thus you no longer wonder why his body is lean and mean. Add the fact that he has full, sensuous lips and a face that can calm any doubting mother, He possesses the requisite heat needed by any heartthrob.
Jane de Leon—With doe eyes that can convey all sorts of emotions and a face that refreshes, she definitely makes her presence and acting felt in a primetime drama series wherein she needs to be at par with the Amy Austria and Jericho, who portrays as her mother and brother respectively
JC Alcantara—first noticed in a pancit canton commercial, this very Filipino looking young man, with the most gentle face, is a welcome breather to the predominantly mestizo men that populate the entertainment industry. In Halik where he portrays Bogs, every time he smiles and looks at Maggie (Jane), you cannot help but wish you were Maggie so you could tell him, “Choose me. Marry me. Let me make you happy.”
EJ Salamante—he has the biggest chance to be proclaimed as the Reyna ng Banga in “Backlash” singing competition, one of Eat Bulaga’s most watched segment. Kooky, with a fierce sense of fashion and a singing voice that soars and wows. EJ now regularly performs in EB production numbers with his other co-Bakclashers.
To all, Happy New Year and may the Force be with us all, always.
