Women solons launch book on Filipiniana

The smashing success of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, whose contemporary take on Filipiniana wear and accessories were eye turners, has raised hopes that it translates to a well-deserved and sustained support of the local weaving, embroidery and jewelry industries and Pinoy global designers.

“Kasuotan: Filipiniana Redefined,” a coffee table book by the women legislators of the 17th Congress, highlights such outstanding contribution of the local industries and talents as well as the accomplished legislators that champion them.

Deputy Speaker Linabelle Ruth R. Villarica, President of the Association of Women Legislators Foundation, Inc., said that in their latest fundraiser, “Children patients of the National Center for Mental Health will thank you.”

Proceeds of the book sale shall help build the Paaralan at Palaruan ng Kabataan at the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong City.

It marks another opportunity for a relevant contribution by the women legislators, who broke ground as they called attention to the human rights and care for mental health patients through the passage in November 2017 of Republic Act 11036 or the Philippine Mental Health Law.

Antipolo City 1st District Rep. Maria Cristina Roa-Puno, chairperson for the book project, coordinated with the Department of Health for the facilities needed. Her co-chair, Mandaluyong City Rep. Alexandria P. Gonzales, shall oversee the construction of the facilities to be located within her congressional District.

An enjoyable bird’s eye view of the unforgettable legacy of the 86-strong women of the House of Representatives can spread the cheer even beyond the season, as the book costs only P2,500 each. Discounts for bulk orders are follows: 10%, 30-50 books; 15%, 51-100 books; 25%, 101 books and above. Call “Lilo” for orders at 931-5001 local 7278 or 0920-9620602.
