Firmo, Leyte top 2018 education regional awards

Tacloban City—Leyte Schools Division Superintendent Ronelo Al K. Firmo and his division personnel and teachers have topped in this year’s education awards given by the Department of Education regional office in Eastern Visayas.

Firmo received the “Most Outstanding Schools Division Superintendent” award among 13 divisions in the division banner project implementation during the recently-concluded “Region 8 is Great: A Golden Voyage” recognition ceremony at the Summit Hotel in Tacloban City.

The DepEd regional office through Regional Director Ramir Uytico lauded Firmo for his “commendable contributions, achievements, and services in sustaining the summit of excellence through his unwavering zeal of attaining the goals of Project LEAD (Lead, Empower, and Achieve through Data-Driven Decision, thereby empowering school leaders in his division.”

Firmo attributed his award to Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Marilyn Siao, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Edgar Tenasas, the School Governance Operations Division headed by Dr. Rhodelia Orbino, the Curriculum Implementation Division chief Felicidad Espinosa, and to entire Leyte division staff.

Uytico launched the Project LEAD in 2016 in response to Republic Act No. 9155 or the Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001.

The project aims to encourage the 13 divisions in the Eastern Visayas to come up with their respective project highlighting the role of the school leaders in the delivery of basic education policies, principles, and services that address the needs of their community

Meanwhile, Siao said that Firmo’s award showed that the division is “indeed harvesting the produce of project SEEDLING or Strategic Empowerment of Educators in the Delivery of Learning Instruction and Needs-Based Governance.”

Teodorico C. Pelifio Leyte (Outstanding Teacher Personnel), Karen H. Barri (Outstanding Non-teaching Personnel), Geraldine M. Mangaliman (Outstanding Teaching Related Personnel), Mauricio Catan (Outstanding Schools Division Research Management), Nancy S. Tesado (Outstanding Division in Learners’ Information System -LIS Implementation), 

Liezel G. Villote of Burauen in North Central School, Leyte (Gulayan sa Paaralan Best Implementing School- Elementary-Central), Eleanor M. Miralles of Borseth National High School in Alangalang, Leyte (Gulayan sa Paaralan Best Implementing School- Secondary-Small), Juan 8. Mitra (Best Practice in Technical Assistance Provision-TARGETS-Technical Assistance for Reinforcement Geared towards Empowering Teachers and School Head).

Edgar Cativo (Brigada Ekswela Implementing School- 1st place, Tinambacan Elementary School-Small School category), Diana Garrido (Brigada Ekswela Implementing School- 2nd place, Mag-aso Elementary School- Small School category), Rosa Jean Quilisadio (Brigada Ekswela Implementing School-3rd place, Gibacungan Elementary School- Small School category), 

Joel A. Ranes of Alang-Alang I Central School (School-Based Management-Level III), Eleanor E. Cagara of Burauen Comprehensive National High School (School-Based Management-Level III), Anabella P.
