THE Quezon City government is the 2017 Apolinario Mabini Local Government of the Year for persons with disabilities awarded by the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled Inc., Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte said on Tuesday.
The foundation lauded Mayor Herbert Bautista and the vice mayor for working together in implementing measures that looked after the rights and needs of the PWDs.
While Bautista approved an ordinance mandating a one-percent budget allocation for projects intended for differently abled as well as for senior citizens, Belmonte established a special care facility for children with disabilities called Kabahagi Resource Center for Children with Disabilities.
“As a public servant and as a mother, I have observed that we lack programs in Quezon City that help children with disabilities. This is why we are providing more services that they need,” she said.
The Kabahagi Center offers free intervention programs for disabled children, free trainings for parents, and referrals as well for those who have special needs.
