“‹Construction of the Philippine Sports Training Center that will be built in Rosales, Pangasinan is expected to begin by July next year.
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez said this following talks with the province of Tarlac on sharing responsibility in the development of the center.
“We will put a lot of sports facilities there. Athletes from the regular sports will be able to train there,” said Ramirez.
The facilities will be built in a 20-hectare land located in the border of Pangasinan and Tarlac.
Finding the right place to build the center was made possible with the help of Cong. Conrado Estrella III, who is a member of the House Committee on Youth and Sports Development.
Two weeks ago, the Senate bicameral conference committee approved Senate Bill No. 1716, or the Philippine Amateur Sports Training Center Act.
The bill was sponsored and authored by Senator Manny Pacquiao, chair of the Senate Committee on Sports, and was co-sponsored by Senator Sonny Angara.
The PSTC is expected to help boost the country’s performance in the Olympics and other international sports events, because it will be an additional venue for the training of national athletes.
Bidding for the construction of the facilities is expected to happen within the next six months of 2019.
Ramirez said this will boost the PSC’s effort to also have a venue for their grassroots sports development program.
The programs will be done with the support of the Department of Education and the local government units.
