SEA Games Federation council executive committee chairman Celso Dayrit said this after esports was approved as a regular medal event in the biennial meet.

“The SEA Games Federation Council will recognize the AESF as the federation for the sport for the SEA Games, the Asian Games, and in other regional meets,” Dayrit said.

Dayrit said this just as Philippine SEA Games One Year Countdown Celebration began last night at the Bayanihan Park, Clark, Angeles City, Pampanga.

A time honored tradition of the SEA Games, the Philippines as host country led the Countdown Celebration to announce the start of a series of activities, functions and gatherings leading up to the Opening of the 30th SEA Games in 2019.

The Hong Kong-based AESF is headed by Kenneth Fok, and was behind the successful staging of esports as demonstration event in the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur and the 18th Asian Games.

Six medals will be at stake for e-sports, or video gaming, next year.

The AESF will determine which games will be played and will submit their recommendations by Dec. 15, according to Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee chairman Allan Peter Cayetano.

In the absence of a national sports Association in e-sports in the country, Cayetano and Phisgoc executive Ramon Suzara led the formation of an ad-hoc committee to oversee the preparation and organization of an e-games event in the country. Peter Atencio

Yu belongs to ESNAP, or Electronic Sports National Association of the Philippines, while Juban is part of NESFP, or the National Esports Federation of the Philippines which are part of the adhoc committee.

Both ESNAP and NESFP are seeking recognition as an NSA before the Philippine Olympic Committee.
